Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a health care profession that views human movement as essential to the health and well being of individuals. Physiotherapy is a holistic approach to healthcare that stimulates the body's own natural healing mechanisms without the use of drugs or surgery to restore the body to optimal functional ability.
Physiotherapists use thorough clinical assessment to evaluate pain and dysfunction and determine how best to resolve it. Physiotherapists look at the body as a whole and many different treatments can be used to optimise functional ability and maximise a person's potential.
The main emphasis is on early intervention to maximise recovery and minimise dysfunction ensuring a prompt return to fitness. A specific programme of exercises and correct postural alignment helps to prevent further injuries and recurrent pains and aches. Strengthening core stability muscles helps maintain good posture and relieve spinal related problems.
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle but extremely powerful form of therapy. Ideal for all conditions below and especially good for resistant, longstanding aches and pains. See seperate section on craniosacral treatments.
Conditions that respond well to these therapies are:
- Soft tissue injuries including strains and sprains
- Sporting injuries including acute and recurring problems
- Spinal pains including neck and back aches
- Trapped nerves including sciatica
- Muscle spasm
- Headaches and migraines
- Arthritis and stiff and painful joints
- Pregnancy related pains
- Posture related pains i.e. desk based jobs and repetitive work
- Dysfunction following surgery
- Specific joint pains including knee and shoulder
