Bowen Technique
What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen is a gentle, remedial, dynamic therapy which empowers the body's own healing resources to achieve balance and harmony resulting in fast and lasting relief from pain and discomfort.
How can Bowen help me?
As the treatment is holistic in its nature bowen can facilitate the balancing of a very broad spectrum of conditions. Bowen produces a body response a consequently will improve circulation, lymphatics, joint mobility, posture clearance and the normalisation of cellular physiology and tissue integrity.
Conditions that respond well to Bowen include:
- back problems and pain
- sports accidents and injuries
- frozen shoulders
- stress disorders
- whiplash
- muscular/skeletal pain, imbalance
- neck pain
- pregnancy pain
- acute and chronic fatigue
- asthma
- strokes
- bedwetting
- pelvic imbalance
- parkinsons
- MS
Bowen is accessible to everyone and therefore by its nature is able to treat such a broad range of problems.
Where did bowen come from?
Mr Tom Bowen (1916-82)devoted a lifetime to developing his gentle and innovative approach in Geelong Australia. The webb report of 1975 an Australian government survey on natural therapies, found him to be treating some 13,000 patients a year. His approach was a simple energy connection procedure to instigate change in the balance of the body.
What happens in a treatment?
A typical bowen treatment consists of the therapist making small gentle rolling moves over the fascia of muscles/ligaments/ tendons etc, then pausing, sometimes leaving the room.
The breaks in treatment give the body the best chance to relax with no outside stimulus, taking on board the information its been given from making the move. The therapist will then continue to make more moves followed by more short breaks. Bowen therapy is different in its nature, as not a great deal of hands on manipulation occurs in the treatment, however the body will heal itself in the treatment but also once the client has left. Generally 2 treatments close together are needed initially with only maintenance treatments needed after that. it is very fast acting, but also long lasting.
