Hiring your own Water Babies birth pool brings you the security of having your own pool, ready to use when needed, delivered and set up in the privacy and comfort of your own home.
We live in water for the first 9 months of our lives and it is the first element that we experience. The warm water of the birthing pool provides a gentle transition for the new baby between the inner world of the womb and the outer world of the atmosphere.
Humans share with other mammals a need for seclusion and privacy when giving birth, a Water Babies birth pool can help provide this important, personal space.
What Are The Benefits Of A Water Birth?
- Before and during your labour, relaxing in a deep pool of warm water can be a wonderful aid, helping to ease, sooth and calm your body
- Using a birth pool can help you effectively manage pain in labour. This may considerably reduce your need for medical pain relief or interventions. Research shows that fewer epidurals are needed when women use a birth pool
- Your body is supported by the buoyancy of the water. This helps you to cope with the contractions and rest more comfortably between them
- It's easier for you to use upright or squatting positions in water than it is on land. You can move freely from one position to another as you explore what works best for you
- You're likely to have an increased sense of privacy and security in the pool
- Due to an increase in hormones, you are likely to dilate more rapidly when you enter the pool at the correct time. It can also help stimulate more effective contractions
About Your Birth Pool
Water Babies was established in 2001 to help provide quality Water Birth pools for women who want the choice of being in labour and/or giving birth in water, either at home or in hospital.
Our 4ft and 5ft round birth pools are based on a popular wooden design, and have been custom made according to the needs of women in labour.
Both sizes are large enough to comfortably fit both parents and of course your new baby. It's a great space for the whole family to share!
The wooden sides ensure the pool is strong enough to lean against with your whole body weight. The base and rim are padded to ensure comfort.
The pools have been safety tested by Singleton Hospital and come recommended by many local midwives.
With each birth we provide a new disposable liner and water hose to fill the pool to ensure complete hygiene.

Prices - water birth pool hire
- £130 for the first weeks hire
- £30 for each subsequent week
- We recommend that you hire the pool from 2 weeks prior to the baby's due date
- The pool and equipment needed are delivered to your home, and the pool set up for you in the room of your choice
- Delivery is free locally in Swansea and the Gower. Delivery to addresses further away will incur an extra charge to cover travel costs
